Kabylie create history by lifting CAF Cup again
ALGIERS, Nov 23 (AFP) - JS Kabylie of Algeria became the first club to successfully defend the CAF Cup when they beat Etoile Sahel of Tunisia 1-0 Friday to snatch the title on the away-goal rule.

Etoile, winners of the annual competition for national league runners-up in 1995 and 1999, took a 2-1 lead into the second leg before a capacity 80,000 crowd at the July 5 Stadium.

But they fell behind after 28 minutes when defender Brahim Zafour scored his second CAF Cup goal with a header when Etoile failed to clear the second Algerian corner of an ill-tempered match.

The Tunisians did have the ball in the net four minutes after half-time, but Kabylie were awarded a free kick for a foul on goalkeeper Lounes Gaouaoui by Ivory Coast striker Abdelkader Keita.

Gaouaoui hurt his left shoulder in the incident and had to be substituted by Lounes Bougherara midway through a second half that ended with Keita sent off for head butting Noureddine Drioueche.

Late challenges on goalkeepers were common with the match also halted for several minutes when Hamid Baba was fouled by Zafour, whose other goal came in the second-round victory over Ethiopian club Electricity.

Baba recovered to brilliantly parry away a swerving free kick from Lounes Bendahmane as Kabylie got on top in the closing stages against opponents who had little to offer in attack.
